Mrs. Elizabeth Mathai (B.Sc.,B.Ed.) was born on 4th September 1937 in Kerala. She had three brothers and four sisters. She was the eldest daughter in the family and took up the responsibility of teaching her younger siblings to help her father. She was an Educationist all through her life. She did her graduation in Kerala and her B.Ed. in Kolkata. She started her teaching career in Miss-Baker School, Kottayam, Kerala. Then she went on to teach in Central Govt. School, Changlang, Arunachal Pradesh, then in a Private School in Imphal, Manipur. Then she continued her teaching career in Mallinson Girls' School, Srinagar, J&K. She then left her job for some years to take care of her three kids.

Later she taught in CFC School, Ludhiana before she came to Udhampur. Sharon Public Hr. Sec. School, Udhampur, J&K was started by her and her husband (P. M. Mathai) in 1985. Children lovingly called her Principal Mam. The school was started with 11 children on the rolls. Under the guidance of Principal Mam and Mr. Mathai the school blossomed into a fully fledged Higher Secondary School. Despite failing health she continued to teach Science and English till about one year before she passed away. She was a kind but strict motherly figure to the children in the school. She went to be with the Lord on April 18, 2007.
